The first gameplay footage of Mass Effect Andromeda was released last night during the Video Game Awards. Yes, Sam’s still talking about Mass Effect Andromeda. After she finished weeping in joy at the badass biotic charge and even badder ass Sloan Kelly, she watched the trailer all over again. The world looks massive, the tech looks amazing, and the facial animations looks awful, just like a BioWare game should be.

We (finally!) have some casting/character news out of Star Trek: Discovery.

Anika has been a Michelle Yeoh fan since The Heroic Trio and not only is she a Captain, she has a ship with a Chinese name (USS Shenzhou)!

She’s not as familiar with the other two, but Doug Jones had a small role in Tank Girl as well as many, many prosthetic/motion capture roles. And Anthony Rapp was in Adventures in Babysitting which means Anika is now only two degrees from Michelle Yeoh (by way of Bradley Whitford who she was in a show with 25ish years ago –still counts!).

Marc Andreyko was a guest on one of Sam’s fave podcasts, Throwing Shade, this week. He was there to talk about Love Is Love, the comic coming out in December to benefit victims of the Orlando shooting. Andreyko is also the guy behind one of Sam’s fave comics ever, the Kate Spencer iteration of Manhunter (have you ever heard Sam talk about Manhunter?) so it was a must-listen for her.

Anika hasn’t gotten to see Fantastic Beasts yet but look at Australia’s wee baby niffler:

There was a big crossover in the DC TV shows this week. Sam only watched Supergirl (OMG SANVERS) and clips of the others shows, mostly involving Supergirl (but also sometimes Sara because Sara), but she’s a sucker for superhero team ups, even if they’re silly. I mean, check out this group shot:

The live-action Pokémon film, Detective Pikachu, got a director marking it that much more likely it is actually happening. Get ready for Pikachu Holmes!

ICYMI on the site this week:

  • Transformative Works – Anika tells how creating Star Wars fan works gave her her voice back after the election of Mr. Trump.
