Let’s Talk Television: Fall Premiere Season

It’s finally Fall TV Season! I watch a lot of television. Not necessarily the most prestigious or popular or, um, good television. I love to watch messy shows. Shows that get more points for trying than succeeding. Shows that require me to do mental gymnastics in order to make them make sense. I like to say I watch terrible television so you don’t have to. Because I also love to talk about it.

So! Here are some of the shows that start up in the next few weeks (mostly) that you’re like to see me talking about on twitter and this blog.

Superhero Shows I Start Watching But Never Seem To See Through To The End Of The Season

Gotham (Mondays on Fox) I like about 10% of this series and yet I’m giving it another shot because they’re bringing back Fish Mooney and cast Jamie Chung.

Supergirl (Mondays on the CW) With the network hop from CBS to CW I’m just going to wait and see.

The Flash (Tuesdays on the CW) I’m terrible at keeping up with this show but this season has  Wally, Tom Felton, and a crossover musical episode.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (Tuesdays on ABC) I barely ever know or care what’s going on but I’m invested in (some of) the characters.

Etc.  I’ve never seen Legends of Tomorrow but I think I should? I watch the Marvel Netflix series but they’re on a different schedule.

I ♡ Fictional Chicago

Chicago Fire (Tuesdays on NBC) I haven’t watched this regularly since they killed off my favorite character (#NeverForgetLeslieShay) but I will watch if it’s a crossover with the others. And spend the time wanting to punch Matt Casey in the face.

Chicago P.D. (Wednesdays on NBC) I used to make so much fun of this series about police officers with questionable morals. And I still do/will, but it is my favorite of the bunch. It’s a series about a family of police officers with questionable morals and that makes all the difference. I love them and their messy lives.

Chicago Med (Thursdays on NBC) E.R. (which also takes place in Chicago) is one of my most favorite television series ever and this is not E.R. But it’s really trying and towards the end of its first season they hit a stride. I’m  looking forward to new stories for my second favorite Chicago doctors (sorry Chicago Hope).

Chicago Justice (Coming in 2017 to NBC) The backdoor pilot was a miss for me but I love law dramas almost as much as I love medical dramas.

Etc. Law & Order: SVU (Wednesdays on NBC), also a Dick Wolf production so a part of ‘One Chicago’ despite taking place in NYC,  is entering it’s 18th season! I can watch L&O for literally hours, it’s weirdly soothing. And ngl I’m totally hoping for Chicago Public, the high school Chicago, and Chicago Symphony, the artistic community Chicago, and Chicago Stadium, the sports Chicago, and Chicago Pizza, the foodie Chicago and. . .

Incomprehensible Task Force Go!

The Blacklist (Thursdays on NBC) My Black Widow AU. Last season was all over the place but I honestly loved every minute.

The Blacklist: Redemption (Coming in 2017 to NBC) This one stars Famke Janssen in the James Spader role! And I’m still hoping for Gina Zanatakos to join (and steal Tom away from Liz).

Madam Secretary (Sundays on CBS) This show is actually not at all terrible! I love every single McCord and how they all support each other so much. And Elizabeth’s staff is great, too. The series balances political dramarama with family dramarama and also espionage and <3

Quantico (Sundays on ABC) This show, otoh, is completely and utterly ridiculous and makes zero sense. But I am so ready for new wholly absurd hijinks and nonsensical personal drama in season two!

Etc. Scandal returns midseason and I can’t quit it even when I want to. How to Get Away With Murder (Thursdays on ABC) is another one I start watching but lose halfway through (the question is, does that make it secretly a superhero series?). Oh and Elementary (Sundays on CBS), same (same).

Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time (Sundays on ABC) This stupid show. It’s kind of the perfect example of ‘terrible television I watch for you’ because I have multiple friends who keep up with it only through me. Last season I fell behind recapping because I’ve always watched with my daughter and she started making excuses. So, yeah, my eleven year old has given up on the show. . . but I’m still looking for happy endings! And with only myself to worry about I intend to be on schedule this season.

Etc. I expect to try out various new series and return to ones I fell off watching, probably based on what my friends tweet and blog about or straight up recommend to me (I love recommendations! @ me!). I’ll catch up with the latest seasons of The Americans and Lab Rats and Orphan Black (these would make an amazing crossover) etc. when they become available on my streaming services. And I certainly don’t limit myself to current series, either, see Star Trek: Voyager and Star Wars: The Clone Wars but also Leverage and Burn Notice and House MD and is it time for another biannual rewatch of Life?

I watch a lot of television and I love to talk about it.
